Texans winning streak hits 16 following wins over Chaparral and Johnson City

The Texans extended their winning streak to 16 games as Wimberley defeated both Killeen Chaparral and Johnson City in the final pair of non-district games of the 2025 regular season.

No. 5 ranked Wimberley improves their overall record to 31-5 as the Texans cross the 30win threshold for the season.

Wimberley started the week on the road against the Killeen Chaparral Bobcats.

The Texans swept the Bobcats 3-0 [25-11, 2517, 26-24].

The duo of senior Lilli Sandoval and freshman Trinity Laney led the team in kills with nine each. Senior Mariah McCoy was third in kills with six. Senior Carson Peoples led the team in assists with 14 followed by senior Skylar Herring with 10.

On defense, Sandoval led the team in digs with nine followed by Laney with six. Herring and Peoples were tied for third in digs with five apiece. Senior Sophie Guerrero and McCoy led the team in blocks with two each.

The Texans returned home Friday night against the defending 2A Division State Champions Johnson City Eagles.

Despite the Eagles snapping the Texans streak of 32 consecutive sets won, Wimberley defeated Johnson City 3-1 [25-17, 25-14, 2025, 25-17].

Sandoval led the team in kills with 12 followed by McCoy, Laney and senior Cameron Thames with 11 apiece. Herring led the team in assists with 33 followed by Peoples with 15.

On defense, Sandoval led the team with 15 digs to complete the double-double. Senior Ashton Shipman was second in digs with 14. Junior Jillian Abel led the team in blocks with two.

Wimberley opens up district play at home against the New Braunfels Long Creek Dragons Tuesday night before going on the road to battle the No. 17 ranked Davenport Wolves on Friday. Both games are set to start at 6 p.m.
