On September 11, Wimberley will honor two Patriots of the Year. The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Plaza on top of the Emily Ann Theatre and Gardens. The honorees in 2025 are Travis L. Maher and Michael Thibodeaux. Maher was a Captain and firefighter with the Wimberley Fire Department who was on duty during the flood of 2015. He was also on hand following the attack on the World Trade Center in New York city and was a member of Texas Task Force One. He died in 2022 from a cancer possibly related to his work following the 9/11 attack.
