The aroma of freshly brewed coffee from the corner cafe, the friendly face behind the counter at our favorite boutique, the skilled hands that build a new community center - these are the everyday heroes of a local economy. They are the small business owners who risk it all to build something special, not just for themselves, but for everyone. The U.S. Small Business Administration is launching its annual search for the best and brightest among them, opening nominations for its Small Business Awards. Not just about a trophy; it's a moment for an entire community to pause and say, "Thank you, we see you, we honor you." Small businesses are the backbone of the economy and their resilience, especially in the face of challenges like the pandemic, is a testament to their unwavering spirit. Small businesses make lives easier, more productive and more enjoyable, often without even realizing it. They are the cornerstone of neighborhoods and the engines of our economy. Too often, these entrepreneurs are too busy to stop and recognize their own incredible accomplishments. They are the ones working late nights, serving their customers with a personal touch, and investing their passion into every detail. These awards give them an opportunity to be celebrated, to have their hard work and risk-taking publicly acknowledged. The SBA has historically served as a critical lifeline, providing guidance, facilitating financing, and helping businesses navigate economic uncertainty.
These awards are a continuation of that support — a chance for the government, and all of us, to shine a spotlight on those who have gone above and beyond.
This year, some of small businesses could be recognized on a national stage. Winners of the prestigious Small Businessperson of the Year award will be celebrated in Washington, D.C., in May, representing Texas on a national level.
We urge you to look around your community and consider the businesses that make a difference in your life. Nominate yourself or your favorite small business for an SBA award today. Let’s show our gratitude to the entrepreneurs who truly are the heartbeat of our community. www.sba.gov/nsbw
