Texans capture 1st Place at Matador Classic
The Texans hold up their 1st Place trophy won at the Matador Classic in Seguin. Wimberley won the tournament without dropping a single set.

The Texans brought home another tournament championship this past weekend as Wimberley took 1st Place at the Matador Classic in Seguin. 

It was a dominant performance by the Texans who not only won all their games but also didn’t drop a single set against their opponents. 

Wimberley improves to 25-5 for the season. 

The Texans open the tournament against San Antonio Stevens, ending with Wimberley winning 2-0 [25-13, 25-22]. 

Senior Lilli Sandoval led the team in kills with eight while senior Ashton Shipman led the team in digs with 11. Senior Skylar Herring led the team in assists with 14. 

In the next game, Wimberley battled San Antonio Southside with the Texans coming away with another win 2-0 [25-12, 25-9]. 

Sandoval led the team in kills with eight while Herring led the team in assists with 16. Sandoval, Herring, senior Mariah McCoy and freshman Trinity Laney all led the team in digs with four apiece. 

The Texans closed out their day against Gregory-Portland as Wimerley came away with another sweep at 2-0 [25-23, 25-15]. 

Laney led the team in kills with six, Shipman led the team in digs with 11 and Herring led the team in assists with 12. 

In Day 2 of the Matador Classic, Wimberley faced off with a familiar rival in the Canyon Lake Hawks. Once again, the Texans dominated, winning 2-0 [25-13, 25-18].

Sandoval led the team in kills with eight while Shipman led the team in digs with 12. Herring led the team in assists with 19. 

In their next game, the Texans battled the tournament hosts in the Seguin Matadors. The game ended in another win for Wimberley at 2-0 [25-6, 27-25]. Cameron Thames led the team in kills with six while Shipman led the team in digs with eight. Herring led the team in assists with 14. 

Wimberley ended the day against the Floresville Jaguars with the Texans winning once more 2-0 [25-14, 25-20]. 

Sandoval led the team in kills with nine while Thames led the team with digs with 12. Herring led the team in assists with 20. 

On the final day of the Matador Classic, the Texans set their sights on the tournament championship, opening with the Industrial Cobras. Wimberley once again came away with the win, defeating the Cobras 2-0 [25-9, 25-17]. 

Laney led the team in kills with 12 while Shipman led the team in digs with nine. Herring led the team in assists with 24. 

Wimberley played their second game of the day against the Boerne Champion Chargers, with the Texans once again taking the win at 2-0 [25-15, 25-21].

Sandoval led the team in kills with 12 while Herring led the team in assists with 26. Shipman led the team in digs with nine. 

In the final game of the day, Texans battled Floresville in a rematch. Wimberley capped off the tournament with another win and brought home the championship at 2-0 [25-16, 25-13]. 

Sandoval led the team in kills with 10 and Herring led the team in assists with 25. Laney led the team in digs with 20. 

Sandoval and Thames were both named to the all-tournament team. 

Wimberley will be on the road this, hosting Blanco 6 p.m. Tuesday night before going on the road to Austin Bowie 6:30 p.m. Friday.
