When a healthcare practice wins “Best of Wimberley” year after year, it’s not a big leap to conclude that what’s offered there is needed, skillfully performed and affordable. Since 2017, Maximum Wellness Chiropractic has received the coveted “Best of” opinion poll for their services.
The husband and wife practice team of Dr. William “Tony” Maxwell, DC and Dr. Leslie Maxwell, DC are the primary providers at Maximum Wellness. They call their administrative team, Kelly and Valerie, “the face and brains of the operation,” and their treatment team, JT, Bridgette, and Haden, “the backbone of our office” because they act as direct extensions of the practice team’s treatment and care. Broadly speaking, the services they offer include chiropractic manipulation, spinal decompression, active care and rehab. But they also value acupuncture, soft tissue therapies, homeopathic and naturopathic remedies.
Not only do the pair treat adults, seniors and pregnant women, their clients are teens, children and babies.
They also treat athletes and performers who ask a great deal of their bodies.
Both doctors have direct experience of how chiropractic care delivers real benefits to athletes. As a younger man, Dr. Tony played football and Dr. Leslie, nicknamed “The Dancing Doc,” began dancing at an early age. At Kilgore College, Dr. Leslie performed as a Rangerette and Swingster. An acute hip injury led her to a chiropractor whose treatment gave her “immediate relief.”
A job-related injury also brought Dr. Tony to chiropractic work. “After suffering an injury on the job, I found pain relief from chiropractic care. From that experience, I felt the calling to enter healthcare myself. I was shown a culture that had purpose with people who love their work.” A list of their training and achievements can be seen on their website, Maxi-mumWell-nessChiro. com.
One of their longtime clients is Cory Pack, who owns State Farm Insurance in Kyle. For the past seven years, Drs. Tony and Leslie have cared for Cory, his wife and their three children, all of whom have been very active in sports. Their oldest daughter played a full complement of school sports before dedicating her talents to volleyball. Their son played football, baseball and ran track, and their youngest daughter competed in basketball and ran track, like her brother. Cory played football and continues to pursue active recreational sports as an adult.
“Dr. Tony under-stands the demands that different sports ask of the body,” said Pack. “He’s very effective in his treatments and all of us see results. He helps me stay healthy so I’m able to do the things I want to keep doing. He’s just excellent at what he does.”
Each new client who walks through the doors of the clinic receives a consultation and chiropractic exam that may or may not require images. While imaging is sometimes necessary, it is the quality of the consultation that could be what distinguishes this practice from others of its kind.
“We carve out time to listen — to understand a person’s lifestyle and their motivation for seeking relief and gaining better mobility,” said Dr. Tony.
According to Pack, this incentive is pervasive throughout the Maxwell’s practice. “Dr. Tony truly cares about helping you get better. He’s somebody who wants to do well for others. He’s really, really good at what he does.”
When asked what he wants for his patients, Dr. Tony said, “I want to help people get well as quickly as possible by delivering care so effectively and efficiently that they get real results without unnecessary cost or delay. I want every patient to know that they can trust me for honest answers. My hope is that our patients feel confident referring their closest friends and family to us, knowing they’ll be cared for with integrity.”
When asked why he and his family kept coming back, Pack said, “Not only is he good at what he does, I like him too. He’s transparent, a good, moral guy with a high-quality character. In our conversations outside of medical issues, I’ve gotten to know him well and we’ve bonded over the challenges life presents, especially since we’re both small business owners. I’m big on community involvement and I really like that he is too. He cares about the community – the people and the kids – and you just can’t fake that stuff. He and Dr. Leslie are completely genuine in their commitment. It’s good to have people like them in the community.”
The Drs. Maxwell are the parents of four girls. Outside of their work at the clinic, Dr. Tony said, “I love being a husband and a dad. I treasure creating a foundation based on love and faith in my own home with my girls. I’m also a foodie at heart. I love firing up the smoker, experimenting with new recipes and keeping the garden fresh and pruned.”
Dr. Leslie shared, “Dance has always been a part of who I am. I’m a proud ‘girl mom’ and a dance and theatre major at heart. I love painting nails, styling hair, playing dress-up with my daughters and making our house a home. Now, as a mother of four, I feel drawn to pass that passion of the stage along — the artistry of technique and the beauty of creating dance itself. This August I returned to the studio — Studio W Dance Collective, formerly Wimberley Dance Elite, — as ballet mistress. I’ll be teaching three levels of ballet, sharing the discipline, language, and timeless elegance of classical ballet with the next generation of dancers.
