Adam Apolinar has been named the new band director at Wimberley High School. Apolinar, who has been the Danforth Junior High Band Director for the past three years, began his duties this summer.“ I’m incredibly excited for this opportunity,” Apolinar said. “Continuing to work with my former junior high students that I’ve taught as they continue their music education in high school is deeply meaningful to me. I can’t wait to build on the momentum we’ve started with the Texan Band program and take it even further.” Including his three years in the Wimberley Independent School District, Apolinar has been in music education for 11 years, with stints at Copperas Cove ISD and Judson ISD at the Veterans Memorial High School. During each of his three years at Danforth, the junior high band received straight 1’s at UIL contests. While at Veterans Memorial, Apolinar helped lead the percussion unit that won a state title at the Winter Guard International event. “What stands out to me about Adam is his familiarity with our students and the high level of respect that our families and band members have for him,” said Principal Ryan Wilkes. “From his experience at the junior high, you can tell he has a clear vision of how best to support developing musicians. He’s also been an integral part of our high school band program’s success the last few years, and I can’t wait to see how he leads our program to new levels.”
Apolinar replaces John Winebrenner as WHS Band Director. Winebrenner was at WHS for eight years and resigned following the 2024-25 school year to take a role in the Houston area that is closer to his family.
Apolinar received a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Baylor University where he participated in symphonic band, campus orchestra, percussion group, handbell ensembles and men’s choir. He and his wife Emily welcomed their first child, Iris, this past spring.
