The Hays County Commissioners Court proclaimed the month of August 2025 as CAPCOG Emergency Management Awareness and Appreciation Month and encouraged all residents, businesses, schools, local governments and communities to acknowledge the service, commitment, dedication and professionalism of local agency, school, university, TDEM and private-sector emergency managers in the CAPCOG region.

The Capital Area Council of Governments is a political subdivision of the State of Texas serving Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis and Williamson counties.

“The State of Texas historically leads the nation in the number of federally declared disasters; be they natural hazards, technological or human-caused,” the proclamation stated. “Local agency, school, university, Texas Department of Emergency Management and private- sector emergency managers dedicate countless hours to developing preparedness, response, recovery, mitigation and prevention programs to protect the lives, businesses, property and the environment in their communities.”
