Is It Just Me?
Join Wimberley humorist Susan Rigby as she attempts to navigate “the small stuff.”
My friend, whom I’ll call “Ann,” to save her any embarrassment, and I decided to go play Bingo. Neither one of us had played in years, but we remembered basically how to play.
Ann was in line to buy her cards when I got there. I was quite a way behind her. I tried to read signs and see how to buy cards. When it was my turn, the kind man explained the process. You can buy a pack or more of each set of cards that are good for about an hour of play. Being a little intimidated, I just purchased a set for the first hour. When I met up with Ann, she had cards for the whole night. I wasn’t sure I would be awake that long.
I remembered that people used Dabbers to mark their cards. Ann wanted to buy one, but I said I brought two highlighter pens that should work. She reluctantly agreed.
When we found our seats, I noticed that everyone around us had multiple bingo cards and an array of multicolored Dabbers. We sat with one set of cards and a highlighter. In the middle of the first game, Ann said that she wasn’t happy that she couldn’t get the highlighter to make a circle like everyone’s Dabber. I was happy if I had any of the numbers called and I could stab my highlighter near that number. My card wasn’t pretty, but it worked. As the night went on, we noticed that most of the winners were at a different table and wondered if we should move. Then we saw how many cards everyone had at the table and decided to stay where we were.
As much fun as it is to sit and hear numbers called that are not on my card, I was more interested in the break when it came so I could buy popcorn.
During the break we both got up individually and came back with a new Dabber. We are sure that is why we didn’t win any games.
Same time, next week?
