‘Finding Solace’ filmed locally, debuts at Austin Action Fest

The Texas-made psychological thriller, “Finding Solace,” will have its local premiere on Friday, August 9, at 7 p.m. at Galaxy Theater in Austin, Texas, as part of the Austin Action Fest and Market. Due to overwhelming demand, a second theater has been added for the 7 p.m. screening.

The story follows the Solace sisters, estranged for years, who are forced to reunite after the sudden death of their father. As they reconnect, long-buried trauma resurfaces, and the sisters are pushed to confront family secrets, grief, and each other. Meanwhile, the local sheriff investigates a series of violent crimes that are haunting the town.

“Finding Solace” was filmed in Columbus, Paige, Dripping Springs and Austin, and features a diverse Texas cast, including many talented actors from Breathe Acting Studio, a training ground founded and led by director Maurice Moore. The Wimberley View went on set during filming in Dripping Springs in 2023.

A global effort with a deep Texas soul, the production brought in ten crew members from Spain who lived in Texas for a month to help create this cinematically beautiful film— blending international collaboration with the unique landscapes and talent of the Lone Star State.

“This feature film is a passion project that has allowed me to tell a story near and dear to my heart,” said Maurice Moore, writer and director of Finding Solace. “I think this story will not only entertain but leave the audience with space for reflection, discussion and the opportunity for personal growth.”

The film has already been officially selected by the Black Independent Filmmakers Association Film Festival in Houston, the San Antonio Black Film Festival and other festivals in Canada and Spain— with more announcements coming soon!

“Working with Maurice Moore as a co-producer and bringing “Finding Solace” to life was a masterclass in passion-driven storytelling. This local premiere is more than just a milestone. It marks the beginning of a much larger journey. We’re just getting started, and we’re incredibly honored to premiere the film with Austin Action Fest and Market. We can’t wait to share it with our Texas community,” said Jennifer Whitney, producer and director of PR and film festival strategy.
