Concert dedicated to Stars over Wimberley co-founder, Randy Renter

The Stars over Wimberley Concert Series presents Carrie Elkin and Danny Schmidt at the Wimberley Playhouse on July 16. Opening for Elkin and Schmidt are Wimberley performers Roland and Ginger Brown.

Underwritten by Denise Renter, the concert is dedicated to the spirit of live music and its fans, honoring Stars’ co-founder and music lover, Randy Renter, who died in 2024.

One half of the main act, Danny Schmidt, is an Austin-based singer- songwriter who has amassed a cult following for his stunningly poetic, and poignant lyricism. Compared to Leonard Cohen and Townes Van Zandt, he is considered a preeminent writer. Joining him onstage is Carrie Elkin, a singer who straddles the Americana, Folk and Indie Rock worlds like Patty Griffin and Brandi Carlile. Elkin is known for projecting personal intimate moments into transcendent universal experiences that move others.

Opening for the pair are father-daughter performers Roland and Ginger Brown. In 2021, Roland formed River Mountain Green with Ginger Brown, Marty Sosby, and later, Mindy Curnutt Turner.

Ginger learned guitar from her father Roland and, after coming into her own voice, she joined the Americana music group, “River Mountain Green.” She possesses a dynamic voice that brings heartfelt, raw emotion to every song she sings.

Proceeds go to Wimberley Valley Arts & Cultural Alliance.

For ticketholders, doors open at 7 p.m. and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m. The Wimberley Players is located at 450 Old Kyle Road in Wimberley.
