For more than 50 years, Texas singer- songwriter Shake Russell, has been entertaining audiences throughout the region and the U.S. with his unique, Americana-style of folk rock.
Weaving sophisticated harmonies through his songs and drawing from various genres, Russell has created a style of folk-rock that is uniquely his own.
A prolific songwriter, Shake has written or co-written hundreds of melodies.
During his long career, Russell has released 30 albums, the first one in 1978, titled “Songs on the Radio,” and most recently, his CD “Chasing the Song,” in 2018.
Russell’s songs and albums have frequented the Billboard charts, covered by many wellknown artists such as Ricky Skaggs’ recording of “You’ve Got a Lover”; Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter’s rendition of “Deep in the West”; Clint Black’s covers of “Put Yourself in My Shoes,” “One More Payment,” “Our Kind of Love,” and “You Don’t Need Me Now”; Jerry Jeff Walker’s interpretation of “The Dare of an Angel”; Gary P Nunn’s delivery of “The Girl Just Loves to Dance”; and BW Stevenson’s version of “Temper Temper,” and Miranda Lambert’s rendering of, “You Wouldn’t Know Me.”
Miranda Lambert’s single of Russell’s, “You Wouldn’t Know Me,” sold or streamed the equivalent of one million units, going Platinum, on her album, “The Weight of These Wings” in 2018.
Russell is a two-time recipient of Broadcast Music, Inc. Million-AIR Award, presented to songwriters, composers and publishers whose works have achieved the rare feat of surpassing one million broadcast performances on U.S. radio. He is also a four-time recipient of BMI’s Writers Award.
In Texas he is equally lauded for his extensive body of work and long, successful career.
In 2004 and 2008 he was named Texas Music Association’s “Entertainer of the Year.” In 2013, they gave him a “Lifetime Achievement Award.”
In 2016, the Austin Songwriters Association inducted Russell into the “Music Legends Hall of Fame.”
