In early July, members of the Rotary Club of Wimberley met to install Chris Nichols as its new President for the next two years. Joyce Yannuzzi, Assistant Governor of District 5840, conducted the ceremony and swore in Nichols and his Board: Carolyn Manning, Treasurer, and Iris Campbell, Secretary.
Nichols was one of the founders of the Wimberley chapter 28 years ago. During the ceremony, he said that over the last two-plus decades, he has been amazed how much the group of about 20 has accomplished. And when someone asks him what the Rotary does, his mind runs through a list of the group’s many successes, most of them have been focused on the success of the community’s children.
Nichols told listeners, “Twenty-eight years ago, the Rotary hosted the first Wimberley Easter Egg Hunts that were held in Woodcreek and at Deercreek.”
Nichols continued to list programs, such as tutoring struggling third-grade readers, supporting children’s health and education programs overseas and taking on committed support for Wimberley’s Camp CommUnity’s afterschool and summer programs.
One of his stated goals is to “share more broadly Rotary’s message and accomplishments.” Another goal is to attract more members who will be “ready and willing to take my position as president when my term is over.”
Nichols reminded the group of a recent message from Rotary’s new International President, Francesco Arrezzo, who encouraged members worldwide to “unite for good through friendship and trust.” The new Wimberley president joined him in saying, “We see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves.”
