Illuminating one of the most enduring icons of Austin music, the documentary “Nothing Stays the Same” about the Saxon Pub will screen at the First Tuesday Film Series, at the Price Center in San Marcos, July 1.
The 70 minute documentary, directed by Jeff Sandman, interviews musicians Bob Schneider, Patrice Pike, Guy Forsyth, Joe Ely, Hector Ward, Carolyn Wonderland, The Resentments, Johnny Nicholas, W.C. Clark, and Van Wilks, along with music enthusiast Gary Keller and Saxon owner Joe Albes.
The film also describes the challenges faced by musicians and music venues in the last 30 years through the lens of the legendary Saxon Pub.
“Nothing Stays the Same” won the SXSW Music Documentary Prize and was voted the “Best Texas Film” at the Hill Country Film Festival. Following the film there will be a question and answer session with producer Lisa Kay Pfannenstiel and Gary Hartman, Former Director of the Center for Texas Music History at Texas State University.
Tickets are $9. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and complementary pizza from Pie Society and drinks from Middleton Brewing will be served from 6:30 p.m. The film starts at 7.
