Rousing Hometown Patriotic Concert July 4

Cool off after the parade with the Wimberley Community Chorus and the Hill Country Community Band during the Thirteenth Annual Hometown Patriotic Concert on July 4 at 3 p.m.

Favorite patriotic songs will be performed such as “America the Beautiful,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “God Bless America,” and “Stars and Stripes Forever.”

“Hymn to the Fallen,” by John Williams from the film “Saving Private Ryan,” will be accompanied by a video presentation. During “Armed Forces Salute,” a color guard will present the flags of the U.S. military branches while veterans are invited to stand and be honored.

The band will play Faure’s Fantasie for Flute, Op. 79 arranged by Robert K. Webb with soloist Luellyn Dollard, a former long-time member of the United States Navy Band. They will also offer “Jitterbug!” by Robert Buckley. The chorus will perform “I Hear America Singing,” “Play for Me a Simple Melody,” by Irving Berlin, and “A Million Dreams,” from the film, “The Greatest Showman.” Finally, their performance of “When the Saints Go Marching In,” will be accompanied by a Dixieland quartet with Cathy McCartney on clarinet, Joe Dollard on trombone, Mark Horne on string bass, and Dan Stephens on drums.

The Wimberley Community Chorus is directed by Ed Snouffer, with his wife, Andrea Stouffer, as accompanist.

For 26 years, Ed served Eanes ISD in Austin as head director of Westlake High School Choirs, leading 8 choral groups involving several hundred students. Under his leadership, the choirs were consistent UIL Sweepstakes winners and were honored in various festivals around the country. Ed has received numerous teaching awards and currently serves as Associate Music Director at St. John’s Methodist Church in Austin.

Andrea was the former head choir director at West Ridge Middle School in Eanes ISD for six award- winning choirs. Under her direction, the choirs performed as a state honor choir for the Texas Music Educators Association, as a national honor choir for the American Choral Directors Association, and twice at Carnegie Hall in New York. During her career she was the recipient of numerous honors and currently serves as accompanist for Tapestry Singers, and is the Children’s Chorus Director for Austin Opera.

The Hill Country Community Band is di-rected by Dr. Manuel Arambula. Dr. Arambula has taught band and orchestra students in the Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, Lubbock, Los Angeles and Texas Tech University. His last teaching appointment was with the Comal ISD as the orchestra director at Canyon High School in New Braunfels.

The free concert will take place at the Wimberley First Baptist Church, 15951 Winters Mill Parkway.
