The Wimberley Masonic Lodge #144 has arranged for a blood drive at Brookshire Brothers, parking lot, 14100 RR 12, on June 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To schedule yourself or your group, go to weareblood/ donor with the group code C759. They advise donors to eat a full meal before donating and bring a photo ID.
According to the We Are Blood website, whole blood donations take approximately a pint of blood, after which it is separated into components. Components such as red cells, plasma and platelets are transfused to local patients.
Whole blood donation takes around 15 minutes. Donors can give whole blood every 56 days.
Consult phlebotomists at the event if you would like to make platelet or double red blood cell donations.
