One of the rituals of warm weather is the summer novel or book, enjoyed during a long car journey, on the beach, by the pool or in that cozy hammock on the porch. The Wimberley Village Library kicked off their Summer reading program last week with an exotic animal show, a petting zoo, snow cones from Wimberley Ice, knot tying lessons from the Wimberley Rangers, CPR demos by Ally Medical, face painting and a seed planting and pot decorating primer from the Hays County Master Gardeners.
The event took place with upbeat tunes from KWVH, cookies and lemonade from the Friends of the Library and hot dogs cooked and served by HEB.

The biggest kick-off ever for the library, more than 600 people attended the event.
During the summer, kids can look forward to performances by jugglers, storytellers, magicians, puppeteers, percussionists as well as shows about wildlife and snakes.
Other activities for kids this summer include magical thinking dance classes and mini golf, and programs to strengthen math and reading skills. Young readers picked up reading packets that will reward kids to read for prizes.
For teens and tweens, the summer program offers dance and crochet lessons, an art club, and summer camps focused on STEM learning with battle bots and a Breakfast Club morning camp. Camp spaces are limited so register early.
Reading logs for teen and tween summer reading can be picked up at the circulation desk to encourage participants to read and review a book or graphic novel for prizes.
For adults, there is a Wednesday night “Loteria,” the classic Mexican game, that allows Spanish learners and speakers to connect and to practice burgeoning language skills.
On Tuesday evenings, adults can bask in the library’s serene vibes by curling up with a book, catching a movie in the Wimberley Community Room, by exploring virtual reality or engaging in crafting. Spaces will be set aside for meditation and relaxation. Book bingo and story building are also part of the fun.
With overwhelming interest in Wimberley Library programs and events, the Chapel in the Hills Church has offered the community the use of their parking lot during the summer.
Permanent expanded parking is in the works, as the Library Board of Trustees recently approved a plan, with project development to begin sometime in the Fall.
