Wimberley’s historic season came to an end at Dell Diamond as the Texans fell to the Spring Hill Panthers 5-3 in the 4A Division II State Championship game despite a late seventh inning rally.

The Texans finished the season with a 26-8-1 overall record, playing for their first state championship in program history.

“I told him when I got here that I thought that baseball could be special,” Head Coach Jeremy Locke said. “They just showed that it can. They set the bar and that's a high bar to reach, but we're going to strive for that bar every single year.”

In the top of the first, Ty Thames connected with a two-out single in center for the first Texan hit of the game. Wyatt Yeatter followed up Thames with a single of his own as Wimberley put runners on first and second.

Sage Hall then put Wimberley on the board first, hitting an RBI single to score Thames at second and giving the Texans a 1-0 lead.

Spring Hill answered back in the bottom of the fourth inning. With reaching base on a two-out single up the middle, the Panthers scored on an RBI single once again up the middle to tie the game at 1-1.

The Panthers later took their first lead of the game on another two-out RBI single as Wimberley trailed 2-1.

Spring Hill later extended the lead on a two-run RBI single, putting the Texans behind 4-1.

The Panthers added on to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, hitting yet another two-out RBI single to go up 5-1 over the Texans.

Going into their final at-bat in the top of the seventh, Wimberley refused to go down without a fight.

Maverick Jacobs started the at-bat with a lead-off bloop single followed by Bryson Anderson being hit by the pitch to put runners on first and second. After a fly out to right field, Thames loaded up the bases on a fielder’s choice.

Yeatter then connected with a two-run RBI single up the middle, utting Spring Hill’s lead down to 5-3.

Sage Hall then moved the runners up a base following the groundout as the Texans had runners on second and third with two outs.

Unfortunately, the Texan rally came up short. Spring Hill ended the game on a strikeout as the Panthers sealed the win.
