WimberleyLionsClub President Doug McLean announced the official launch of the LEO Club, marking a new chapter in youth leadership and community service in the Wimberley Valley. It is in addition to the Wimberley High School and Katherine Anne Porter School LEO clubs that currently provide many service missions to the community, such as volunteering at Market Day, arranging food and conducting clothing drives.
The LEO Club Program, whose acronym stands for leadership, experience and opportunity, is a youth branch of Lions Clubs International that includes over 7,700 LEO clubs and 200,000 members worldwide, who complete more than 600,000 service projects each year. LEOs promote leadership, teamwork and civic responsibility.
At the special induction ceremony, Wimberley Lions Club President Doug McLean welcomed members, families and distinguished guests from Lions District 2S3 and the state LEO organization to celebrate this milestone.
“As part of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service organization, we are honored to support the next generation of leaders,” he said. “Our new LEOs are stepping into a global tradition of service, compassion and civic engagement.”
“One core goal of establishing this club is to offer youth and families meaningful opportunities to serve the community in ways that go beyond Market Days,” McLean continued.
According to Mc-Lean, the new club is open to any child aged 12 to 18 who is homeschooled, attends a public, private or charter school, or who lives in the community who wants to join.
The ceremony concluded with the official induction of the club’s officers and the presentation of the club charter. Joining the Community LEO club were the new LEO officers: President Christian Richardson, Vice President Adelyn Whitman, Secretary Andrew Dunsmore, Treasurer Ada Dunsmore. Other new members were Owen Whitman, Hanna Richardson, Ava Richardson, Huson Hill, Emmett Atkins, Lily Perez, Enzo Perez, Leelah Rand, Olivia Scholmer and Gracie McLean. Nathan Hill is the LEO club advisor. The club meets monthly on the third Monday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Wimberley Library. The next meeting is June 16.
“This is more than just the launch of a club, it’s the beginning of a movement,” said McLean. “Together, we will inspire service, leadership and positive change for years to come.”
