There’s great news for rodeo and twostep fans from the Wimberley VFW. This year’s traditional July 4 rodeo will feature an after-rodeo dance in the VFW hall on June 5.

The 79th Annual VFW Rodeo, hosted by Oldham-Cummings VFW Post 6441, gallops into Chester Franklin Arena at Veterans Park, July 3 through 5.

The Pro/Open rodeo, sanctioned by the Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association, showcases top-tier action while supporting veterans and community programs.

Rodeo riders compete in classic skill and speed events – bull riding, bronc riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, team roping, women’s breakaway roping and barrel racing, as well as youth and adult calf scrambles.

Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame free-style bullfighter icon Leon Coffee will appear, as well as the Lone Star Cowgirls precision riding team. If weather permits, there will be nightly fireworks.

Gates open each night of the rodeo at 5:30 p.m. Mutton Bustin’ registration begins at 6 p.m. and the first event is at 7. The rodeo begins at 8 p.m.

Advance tickets go on sale June 29 through 30, from 3 to 6 p.m. at VFW Hall. Adult tickets are $20; children ages 4 to 12 are $10. Limited box seats are available for $75.

At the gate, adult tickets are $25; children ages 4 to 12 are $15. Children 3 and under are free.

Advance tickets for the end of rodeo dance are $15 or $25 at the door. It is BYOB and limited seating is available.

The Oldham-Cummings VFW Post 6441 is located at 401 Jacobs Well Rd., in Wimberley.

Proceeds benefit VFW Post 6441 and Auxiliary programs that support veterans and the local community. For more details, visit vfw6441.com/rodeo or call 512-847-6441.
