Wimberley Texans Tennis team competed in the 2025 4A State Tennis tournament, held May 15 and 16, and brought home impressive wins.
On Wednesday, athletes received a sendoff from Ace Hardware, Wimberley Constables, Wimberley Fire and Rescue, parents and friends. Several grandfathers created a Burma Shave-type jingle and posted it along Southriver for the athletes to read on their way out of town.
In Thursday’s first match of the day, Senior Tyler Youens fought hard but lost to an extremely talented player from Hereford.
Returning State semifinalists, Kate and Kennedy Carson overpowered the competition, beating both Seminole and Bellville, to move to semifinals on Friday.
In Boys Doubles, Marcus Gonzales and Branton Kirchner overcame to win 6-4, 4-6, and 6-4 against a wellcoached Pleasant Grove team.
The Texan Mixed Doubles of Kyndan Gilley and Logan Carpenter, making their State debut, beat Waco Robinson, 6-4, 2-6, and 6-3 to move on to Friday’s semifinals.
In Friday’s semifinals, the Texan Mixed team fought hard but ended their season against a seasoned team from Canyon Randall. Logan and Kyndan brought home bronze medals.
In Girls Doubles, the Carson twins squared off against Canyon Randall and walked away with silver medals.
In their first match, Boys Doubles, Gonzales and Kirchner overpowered Burkburnett, 6-4, 6-1 to move on to the finals.
In the final match, Gonzalez and Kirchner were considered slight underdogs against Wills Point but they prevailed with a 6-3, 6-4 win to become class 4A Boys Doubles Champions, and to wear the gold.
