On May 24, Wimberley will come together for a special concert event to honor the lives lost following the 2015 Memorial Day flood and recognize the resiliency of its community after widespread devastating damage.
At Blue Hole Regional Park, from 1 a.m. to 6 p.m., the concert will also celebrate and support area first responders with musical performances by Jesse Stratton and Texas country legend, Gary P. Nunn.
“The 2015 flood was a tragic and defining moment for Wimberley, but everyone came together, supported one another, and proved our strength as a community,” said Jim Chiles, Mayor of Wimberley. “This concert is a tribute to those we lost, those who rebuilt, and the first responders who continue to serve our town.”
Speakers will echo the themes of rescue, recovery, rebuilding and resilience. They include former Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem and Council member Steve Thurber, Director of Wimberley Emergency Medical Services, Ken Strange, Wimberley Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief, Chris Robbins, Vicki McCuistion of Barnabas, and former Director of the Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce, Cathy Moreman.
“The resilience of our community will be front and center this weekend,” said Michele Woods, Wimberley Director of Tourism.
