Wimberley Adoption Group and Rescue, a nonprofit dog rescue serving the city of Wimberley and surrounding areas, celebrated a long-awaited milestone on May 4 with a groundbreaking ceremony for expansion at its refuge.
The ceremony marked the start of a project that has been planned since the original property was acquired in 2016. The new facility aims to provide expanded indoor space and upgraded accommodations for dogs awaiting adoption.
Established in 2009, WAG Rescue will be erecting a new building to enhance its current facility, a single-family structure on a six-acre property in Driftwood.
Along with the current main house, nurseries and healing house, the addition of the new construction will house big dogs and allow a safe and secure place during times of inclement weather.
In addition, this expansion will provide the organization with the tools to rescue, administer to, and find permanent homes for nearly double the number of dogs currently at the refuge.
Resident dogs will enjoy amenities such as expanded indoor space, air conditioning, separate kennels with outdoor areas, and a large, covered play area.
Completion of the project is expected sometime in early 2026.
WAG Rescue credits their donors in Wimberley and surrounding Central Texas communities for their extraordinary generosity. Without their support, this project would not have been possible.
