The Texans magical postseason run came to an end last weekend as Wimberley fell to the Zapata Lady Hawks 7-5 in a one-game playoff in the Regional Semifinals.
Wimberley finishes their season with an overall record of 14-17 with two playoff trophies added to their collection.
The Texans scored first in the top of the second, scoring on a Zapata fielding error before Emorie Gahan hit an RBI single to put Wimberley up 2-0.
Later in the top of the third, the Texans scored again on another Zapate fielding error to extend their lead to 3-0.
The Lady Hawks responded by scoring three unanswered runs, tying the game at the end of the fourth at 3-3.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Hawks took their first lead of the game. With the bases loaded, Zapata cleared the bases with a ‘Little League’ home run on the Texans fielding error, scoring all four runs and taking a 7-3 lead going into the top of the seventh inning.
With Wimberley down to their last at-bat, the Texans were not about to go down without a fight.
Elena Lewis got Wimberley back on the scoreboard, hitting an RBI single. The Texans later hit into a double play but not before Reagan Kenley crossed home plate to cut the lead down once more.
However for the Texans, their comeback ended with a strikeout to seal their defeat at 7-5.
Despite the playoff loss, the Texans had a remarkable season and made their furthest trip in the postseason since 2017.
