The Katherine Anne Porter school’s Head of Fine Arts, Michael Moore, has been named a “Hero in Education” by the Hays County Child Protective Board.

According to KAPS Superintendent, Mariah Ingram, “it was a tight competition that was narrowed down to three excellent candidates.”

Moore is an artist, puppetmaker and puppeteer with an extensive background in film, video and theatrical production. He also holds a Masters in Library and Information Science and is a former musician. Moore has taught at both the college and lower school levels.

The Heroes in Education award is a distinction presented by the Hays County Child Protective Board. Its full name, the “Anna Ve Farr Heroes in Education Award,” honors Anna Ve Stevens Farr who was a leader in San Marcos and Hays County for decades in the areas of political advocacy, environmental protection and the education and protection of children.

Farr supervised hundreds of Texas State student teachers over the course of a long career. As a supervising teacher, she knew that teachers and other school personnel played key roles in education, especially when identifying and teaching abused and neglected children.

She was a founding member of the Hays County Child Protective Board and served as a volunteer for 40 years, from the Board’s inception in 1978 to 2018.
