Delta Millworks, an Austin lumber company, plans to start work in June on a 33-acre, $34.7 million headquarters in Wimberley. The new, larger mill will have 88,000 square feet of building space and will allow the company to increase its output of manufactured wood products.
Plans include over 180,000 gallons of rainwater collection capacity, zero immediate reliance on groundwater, less than 17 percent impervious cover, extensive habitat preservation and restoration initiatives, low impact design, dark sky compliant lighting and future solar array capacity. Other benefits to the community include adding a deceleration lane to RR12.
One of Delta’s owners, Price Taylor, will be moving to Wimberley this summer with his wife and two young children.
“I learned recently that Wimberley was heavily influenced by the milling industry in its early years, and was known as Winters Mill before it was named Wimberley. It’s pretty cool that we tie into that legacy,” said Price.
The new facility is expected to open in the Fall of 2025 and create an estimated 117 jobs.
According to the Austin Business Journal, the company received federal incentives for the project and is working on securing local incentives. It received $24.5 million in New Market Tax Credits. The company hopes to receive a property tax abatement of 25 percent over five years from Hays County.
