Texans battle the elements to win Bi-District championship over Lago Vista Vikings

In a playoff series that was delayed over the weekend due the weather, the Texans battled the elements to win a thrilling three-game series against the Lago Vista Vikings to bring home the Bi-District championship.

Wimberley brings home the Bi-District trophy for the second consecutive year.

Game 1 on Friday saw the Texans strike first against the Vikings. In the bottom of the first inning and with the bases loaded, Cody Stoever hit a two-run RBI single to give Wimberley their first lead of the game at 2-0.

Lago Vista answered back in the top of the second, hitting an RBI double to cut Wimberley’s lead down to 2-1. The Texans answered back in the bottom of the second as J Whitten scored on a wild pitch to put Wimberley back up 3-1.

Wimberley added on to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Following a lead-off walk from Maverick Jacobs, Bryson Anderson hit an RBI double in right. Later in the at-bat, Anderson scored on a Lago Vista fielding error to extend the lead 5-1.

However, Lago Vista took their first lead of the game in the fifth inning. The Vikings scored twice on an RBI triple and an RBI single to cut the Texans lead down to 5-3. Lago Vista made it a onerun game after an RBI double before taking the lead on a two-run RBI single. The Vikings added another run on an RBI single as Wimberley entered the bottom of the fifth trailing 7-5.

During the Texans at-bat, thunderstorms forced the game to be moved from Wimberley to Lago Vista as both teams completed Game 1 on Saturday.

The suspended game turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the Texans. In the first at-bat of the continued Game 1 on Saturday, Stoever scored on a wild pitch before Anderson grounded out to short, scoring Gentry McGinnis from third and tied the game at 7-7.

The Texans later took the lead in the same atbat. With a runner on third, Jayden Hall hit an RBI single to score a run before a Ty Thames RBI triple extended the lead to 9-7.

Lago Vista later scored in the top of the seventh on a Texans fielding error but Wimberley shut the door on the comeback to win Game 1 9-8.

Though the Texans looked to complete the sweep by winning Game 2, the Vikings had other ideas. Lago Vista jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Texans could score their lone run of the game in the top of the sixth on a Jayden Hall RBI single.

Wimberley was unable to complete the comeback as the Vikings forced Game 3, winning Game 2 3-1.

Returning back to Wimberley for Game 3 where it all started, both the Texans and the Vikings looked to win the coveted gold glove trophy.

However, it was the Texans who would take advantage first to set the tone in Game 3.

Following back to back walks, Wimberley scored two runs on a Lago Vista fielding error on the Texans bunt attempt to go up early.

After loading up the bases, Anderson earned the RBI the hard way, being hit by the pitch to score another run. Texans scored again on another Lago Vista error before a wild pitch plated another run to Wimberley up 5-0. The Texans later scored on another wild pitch as Wimberley took a commanding 6-0 lead going into the third inning.

The Texans later scored on another Lago Vista fielding error before the Vikings could score their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth inning.

Lago Vista was unable to overcome their deficit as Wimberley brought home the Bi-District championship.

The Texans advance to the Area round where they will meet the Pleasanton Eagles. The Eagles enter the showdown with a 28-4 overall record, having captured the District 27 title. In their Bi-District game against San Antonio Memorial, the Eagles swept the Minutemen, winning Game 1 16-0 and Game 2 25-0.
