Wimberley’s Arts-Fest, featuring nearly 100 nationally-known fine artists took place last weekend on the beautiful Waters Point grounds among the pecan trees and cabins. Visitors and collectors were treated to the work of artists and artisans working in a wide range of media.
One of the most un- usual mediums displayed at the festival was the hammered sculpture by Jarred Bishop of Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Using a custom- made sledgehammer, Bishop pounds 55-gallon steel drums into arresting life-sized sculptures of torsos, garments and other shapes.
The one-time Luling resident and professional skydiver became fascinated with the culture and unique material while living in Puerto Rico. His work recently appeared in a major museum catalogue in Houston.
Hammering metal, but on a very different scale was the handcrafted jewelry by Daisy Poler of Daisy Metalworks.
Like Bishop and Poler, all exhibiting artists at ArtsFest are selected by invitation. Some come from neighboring states and regions, and about 25% are local artists.
Produced by the Wimberley Valley Art League, the two-day event entertained artists and visitors alike with continuous live music, a vintage car show presented by the 12 Kings Car Club, food trucks and a park and ride shuttle provided by the City of Wimberley.
