Last week, Wimberley High School seniors Allison Dodds and Tyler Youens were honored with the WHS Principal’s Award during the school’s Annual Academic Awards Ceremony.
Presented by WHS Principal Ryan Wilkes, the awards are given annually to two students, a boy and a girl, who embody the positive qualities of a WHS graduate.
Awardees’ grade point averages must be in the top 10 percent of the class, they must demonstrate leadership, academic achievement and extracurricular participation.
With a GPA of 4.865, Allison Dodds took a rigorous course schedule that included Honors, dual-credit, and Advanced Placement classes. She is a College Board National Recognition Program awardee, participated in the National Honor Society and other student organizations, qualified for the 2024 4A State Cross Country meet, and was a regional track and field qualifier in 2024.
Also a gifted equestrian athlete, Allie has committed to attend Baylor University next fall, with plans to study law and compete on the school’s equestrian team.
Tyler Youens, with a GPA of 5.022 took Honors and Advanced Placement courses. He is the President of the National Honor Society and previously served as Treasurer of the Student Council and Junior Class.
He is a Fellowship of Christian Athletes student leader and also participates in packing and delivering food to children in need through the Wimberley Fig Tree Outreach program.
Tyler is the team captain of the tennis team and will compete at the Region IV tennis meet in singles on May 7 and was a member of Team Tennis squads that advanced to the State Tournament. They were state champions in 2023 and semifinalists in 2024.
Following graduation, Tyler is considering taking a year off from school to build Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications before beginning studies in Computer Science at Texas A&M.
