Signs of Getting Older

I finally realized that things have changed. Now, when I am ready to go out, I’m not as concerned about looking good, as I am about looking “less bad.” Looking good seems too far of a goal.

Age is creeping up on me. Well, not as much creeping as galloping. I used to think that if I put on lipstick, I wouldn’t be immediately recognized as old.

Then, I used to employ two beauty options at a time – making sure my hair was combed and finding the right lipstick – before facing the world.

Lately, my nicely curled perm has suddenly begun to look like cotton balls caught in an egg beater. Then I noticed the dark circles under my eyes and the wrinkles around my lips. Wait, what happened to my neck? Are those grey hairs in my eyebrows?

Now, I’m upping my beauty regime to include three things: For trips to the grocery store, I put a hat over my face as low as possible, apply lipstick and add eye liner.

If going to a movie, I run a comb through my hair, apply an all-inone makeup and moisturizer combo, and put on eye liner.

When filling up my car, I’ll smooth out my pajamas, run my fingers through my hair and put on eye liner.

The eye liner solves two problems. First of all, if I put enough on, people will stare at my eyes and the rest of my face will be safe from scrutiny. Secondly, it usually causes my eyes to water so, before long, I can’t see if people are looking at me.

I believe I look “less bad” this way.
