The U12 Division 2 Lady Texans girls team played in a round robin style tournament at Veterans Park in College Station last weekend for the South Texas Youth Soccer State Finals. The girls came out of the gate and fought a tough battle in the rain against a Houston team but gave up a goal in the last minute of the match to drop their first match 1-0. It was a tough loss but the girls bounced back to keep their championship hopes alive.
In match #2 against a Beaumont team, the girls knocked in an early goal in the first half by Dannica Maholick. Beaumont fought back and tied it up right before the half. The Lady Texans came back determined in the second half and shut down Beaumont’s offense and capped it off with a goal by Mia Edwards and finished the game strong, winning 2-1.
The final match on Sunday pitted them against a Corpus Christi team who had won both matches 3-0 on day one. They were the odds-on favorite as they had not lost a match all season. The Lady Texans gave up a goal in the first five minutes of play off of a corner kick and had to dig deep to find a way to come back.
