Wreaths that honor: National event celebrates service

Linda Worsham of Wimberley purchased a wreath to honor and remember her husband, an air force veteran, as part of the Wreaths Across America program offered by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Jacob’s Well Chapter. This week she received the live balsam wreath shown to the right.

Her “Patriot Pair” purchase not only delivered a wreath adorned with her husband’s service branch flag to her home, a second veteran’s wreath will be placed at one of the 4,600 participating cemeteries in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad during a wreath-laying ceremony on December 14. On that day, more than 2 million wreaths will be placed across local, national and military cemeteries, veterans memorials and historic sites.

During the wreath-laying ceremony, each veteran’s name is said aloud as a way of thanking them for their service in gratitude for their part in securing the freedoms that Americans enjoy.
