Thank you for noting the enlightening PBS program, Finding Your Roots, in your recent Riffs, Roams, and Raves column. Indeed, this program can open our eyes to the collective heritage of our country that comes from all of our peoples.
I hope you are correct in your conclusion that “not only will (watching) it open your eyes, it will likely open your heart.” We are a nation of many ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, skin colors, and cultures. We are not, however, and never have been or will be an exclusively white, Christian-only country. Our synergy gives us durability. We are stronger and more effective as a nation and as earth inhabitants when we can work together to overcome our differences and to all contribute the various skills, knowledge, and viewpoints unique to each of us.
