Lady Texans outrun the Greyhounds

If you don’t believe in miracles, you weren’t at the Wimberley softball field when the Lady Texans outran the Boerne Greyhounds (15-17-1) for a miracle comeback Tuesday the 16th. After being down 9-0 they won with a walk off in extra innings for a final score of 14-13. With the season coming to an end, the stakes on the game were high, as the winning team would take 3rd place in district and the losing team would take 4th.

In the first three innings the Greyhounds put on an offensive and defensive clinic, scoring nine runs with five in the second inning and not allowing a single Texan batter to make it all the way home.

In the 4th inning, Wimberley finally scored as they brought in two runs which gave them some breathing room as the Greyhounds were one run away from going up 10 and getting a mercy rule victory.

In the 5th, the Texans cut the lead by two runs again as they gave up a run but scored three when they came up to bat with the score now being at 10-5 going into the 6th.

In the 6th, the Texans yet again cut the lead by a small margin by allowing just one run and scoring two from a tworun home run by sophomore Bailey Wright.

In the 7th, Boerne scored two more runs to take the score to 13-6 to more than double the Texans score. But with a district spot on the line, the Texans did not go away easily. They put up a hitting clinic and moved runners into scoring position time and time again, and, with a few Greyhound errors, the Texans rallied and brought in seven runs to tie the game.

In the 8th, the Greyhounds were unable to score, giving Wimberley a chance to win the game with a single run.

The odds were not in Wimberley’s favor when Boerne got two straight outs with two fly outs. But Jayden Jamieson kept the atbat alive by forcing the two-out. Jamieson took second base on a passed ball to give the Texans a prime opportunity to score.

With a 3-1 count, Reagan Kenley hit a line drive double into left field as Jamieson ran home, beating the throw home to complete the amazing comeback and winning 14-13.

The Texans (20-12) next game will be a non-district tune up game for playoffs as they take on the Harper Longhorns (13-14-1) at the Wimberley Softball fields at 5 p.m. on Monday. They will then start their best of three series against the Gonzales Apaches (19-8) on Thursday, on the road, and play a double header if needed on Friday at home.
